Do you need foundation English to increase your English language ability and to build confidence in using English before joining one of our academic courses?

We can add a foundation English course to your offer automatically if your English language skills are not strong enough to go straight into an academic course at the College. We offer foundation English level tuition from an approximate equivalent of IELTS level 4.0 upwards.

We offer two kinds of English preparation if your English Language skills are not strong enough to go straight into an academic course at our college. Pre-sessional English preparation for Pre-Masters courses, and Integrated English for Foundation courses.

Pre-Masters Pre-sessional English:

Tier 4 visa regulations stipulate that Pre-Masters students will need to have a minimum IELTS level of 5.5 (or Equivalent SELT score) with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Find a full list of UKBA approved Secure English Language Tests here.

Glasgow International College is now offering Pre-sessional English courses to potential Pre-Masters students to help them achieve these results. These English courses are highly intensive and have one goal - to help you achieve the required level of English in order to study at a post graduate level in the UK!

What does a pre-sessional course for Pre-Masters candidates comprise of?

The Preparatory English for the Pre-Masters is a specialised intensive English course with a strong focus on exam preparation and individual attention. You will receive 24 hours tuition per week, plus self study and access to online exam practice. The mock exams will identify and skills weaknesses to be addresses in tutorials.

The courses finish with a SELT, arranged and paid for by Glasgow International College. Successful students will be able to renew their visa in the UK then proceed to the January 2012 two term Pre-Masters meaning you can still join a masters degree in September 2012.

What do Integrated English studies for Foundation Certificate students cover?

The Integrated English course provides 20 hours per week of interactive classroom based foundation English tuition and a further 20 hours per week of guided self-study. Assignments include English language project work in the local community and on-line activities, as well as foundation English preparation for classes.

You will also be assigned a personal Learning Support Tutor who you will meet at regular intervals to discuss your progress and so that you can receive help with areas that you may find difficult. During your foundation Integrated English studies, you will also receive enhanced support from the Student Services team to ensure you gain maximum benefit from your foundation English studies.

When can I start?

The Integrated English and Foundation courses have intakes throughout the year. It means that you will be able to start your academic studies as soon as possible.Contact us for more information.
